Your preteen is navigating their first summer without childcare. Older siblings are caring for younger siblings at home and meal preparation is a little too much responsibility. You’ve hired a teenage companion to take your kids to the parks, camps, and activities but this means funds are tight for food.
These are all real scenarios playing out in homes and apartments across Sioux Falls. That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is proud to, once again, offer free breakfasts and lunches to all children, ages 1-18 during June and July 2023.
Using meal counts from previous summers, the Office of Child Nutrition established a schedule for breakfast to be offered at eight schools on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Lunch will be served Mondays through Thursdays at six locations and Monday through Friday at two locations. The schedule will be emailed to SFSD families and will be posted on the District’s website: sf.k12.sd.us. No income eligibility paperwork is required..

Our high flyers for the week of May 8-12 were exceptional leaders at being responsible, respectful, and safe! Way to go!

Happy birthday, Mrs. Van Duyn! Hope you have a wonderful day!

The 4th and 5th grade annual bike trip was on May 10! Students started riding from Spencer Park to Falls Park where they took a short break for a snack, photo op, and fun memories checking out the falls with their classmates. After that, they traveled back to Spencer Park for lunch. What a beautiful day for a bike ride and memories!
Thank you to all of the parents who helped with the food, dropping off.bikes, chaperoning on the trail, and helping out in anyway! Thanks to Scheels for helping with the bike safety training and coming along with the kids and families for the ride. Thanks to Kristen Benidt for lining up a goodie bag from the city with a map and other fun items inside! Thanks to Mrs. Gray and Miss Nelson for coordinating with parents all of the day's details and for Nurse Nick who also helped with any medical needs and came for the bike ride. Thanks to anyone who has ever purchased items from the School Store as this helps with the food for the day! What a fun tradition to keep going at ACE! We are so lucky to be able to do all of these fun things!

The 4th and 5th grade trainers were on the bike trip today so our third grade trainees flied solo! They did great and were so excited! Thanks for the assistance, Mrs. Sweeter!

Long lines for Sweet Tooth School Store days!! Thanks for your support! It helps pay for many things for the 4th and 5th grade, especially the bike trip this week!!

On May 9, we had a Recycling Magic Show put on by Bill Kerwood for the ACE and EIC 3-5. He was so full of energy and taught kids about ways to recycle and help their community. He combined humor, magic, and fun to ignite their passion to recycle more each day! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Thanks for visiting us Bill!

Our ACE Student Council had a great trip to Carnegie Hall to learn about what all happens at City Hall daily on May 2. They learned about city projects, roles of city council members, how to be a good citizen, and where our tax dollars go.
A huge thanks to Police Chief John Thum, Councilors Greg Neitzert and Sarah Cole for talking to the kids! Thanks to Rob Hollan, our Student Council advisor, for organizing the event and for Amy Hoines for driving and helping out. We are proud of this group for being so attentive, respectful, and representing our school so well!! Many compliments were received on the visit!! Way to go!

Bubbles day for Family! It was so beautiful out after a gloomy morning so it made the perfect day for bubbles!

Teachers were very excited for the new ice machine in the teacher's workroom today! It paired very well with all of the wonderful drinks given to them from the parents for Teacher Appreciation Week!! We love surprises! Also big thanks to Promising Futures for the yummy bagels this morning! Thank you everyone!

Happy School Nurse Day to our wonderful nurse, Nick! He connects with the kids so well and helps with their medical needs all with a big smile and laugh! Thanks for all you do! You rock! Thanks also to Kim & Kathy as fill in "nurses" when he is at his other school! We appreciate you all!

The second graders took advantage of the beautiful day by reading outside on the grass and the shade of our new playground! They loved it. Thanks for being responsible and earning time outside! Some students even brought a beach towel or blanket from home to use. Keep working hard!

Teacher Appreciation Week kicked off this week with a 'Friends' theme decked out in the teacher's workroom provided by the ACE PTO and goodies cups from Life Church! Thank you! Students and families brought in flowers that were then created into beautiful bouquets for the teachers and staff! They were gorgeous! Thank you for bringing such joy and beauty to our staff!

When the weather is nice, we take Family time outdoors whenever possible! On May 8th, students in combined grades of K-5 in their "families" went out to the playground to decorate with chalk! It was a beautiful day to be creative with friends!

Every year the third graders in Miss Leloux's class get a chance to learn about fire safety and get a visit from the Fire Safety House and local firefighters.
Students got to watch a video over what to do in the event of a fire in their home and then practiced first hand escaping from a first floor bedroom from the pretend fire. After they climb out, they go to their safe meeting place and practice making a phone call to 911. Firefighters chat with them but fire safety tips and answered questions afterwards.
Good reminder for all families...
• Does your child know what to do in the event of an emergency or different types of emergencies that could happen in your home?
• Do they know your address?
• Do you have a safe meeting place and an alternative spot and have practiced the plan with your family?
• Do they have an emergency phone number memorized of a family member?
It is a good reminder to check your batteries of your smoke detectors and review a family emergency plan! If you are in need of detectors, your family can get up to 4 free by calling 211.
Thank you to the Sioux Falls Fire Department for providing this service to our third graders!

2023 All City Talent Show did not disappoint! We had almost 30 acts with students showcasing many talents from singing, dancing, playing an instrument, doing magic tricks, teaching us karate & balloon animals, and even the teachers showed off their "talents"! Check out the video to watch the ACE teachers doing their best "dance off"!
All City Teacher's Talent Show Performance: https://youtu.be/9gIWy3M9tqc
Thank you to the Johnson family for hosting the Talent Show!! They did so awesome in their first year! Big thanks to McGovern Middle School for allowing us to use their stage to perform! We are so proud of our kiddos in showing off their talents and braving any stage fright! We can't wait to see what they do next year!

Third graders in Miss Leloux's class were doing math problems that talked about the Oregon Trail so of course she had to give them a little 'blast from the past' experience to the original Oregon Trail computer game 1990 version!! How many parents remember playing that as a kid??? They had a blast playing this "old school" game! 😉 So fun!

Our last swimming day for the year was on May 5! Kids love swimming with their friends and some even got to swim their teachers this time! Miss Leloux and Miss Brianna joined in for a swim! We even had our longtime helper in the boys locker, Jay, to take a dip for his final swim day with the kids! Thanks to all parents who assist in the locker room all year long! Thank you, Embe, for allowing us to come the first Friday of every month! We love it

Mrs. Pike's kindergartners got to go to the Butterfly House and Aquarium on May 3! They had a blast and learned lots! They got to enjoy the park on a beautiful spring morning as well! Love the memories! Thank you to the parents who helped chaperone and drive!
