Next week at JFK we are Celebrating Inclusion. What does this mean? Inclusion means making sure everyone feels welcome and valued no matter who they are. Inclusion is important because it makes people feel good and helps us learn from one another. When we include others, we are being respectful, kind and creating a possibility to make new friends. Being included makes us feel happy and accepted. We can include others by inviting them to play a game with us at recess or sit next to a new person at lunch. Be kind. Using nice words can make a huge difference. To help us Celebrate Inclusion, next week we will have dress up days next week. See our Choose To Include Week Schedule attached. JFK is Kind. JFK is Inclusive. JFK is Respectful.

Is Junior Kindergarten Academy Right for Your Child? Attend a screening night to find out! The Sioux Falls School District's Junior Kindergarten Academy (JKA) is a FREE full-day program designed to help young learners build social skills, emotional confidence, and academic readiness before entering kindergarten. To determine if JKA is the right fit for your child, our four JKA elementary sites will be hosting Screening Nights. During these sessions, families will meet with educators to assess their child’s developmental readiness and explore how JKA can support their learning journey. If your child turns 5 on or before September 1 and you’re considering an extra year of foundational learning, we invite you to attend a screening night! Click the link for your school to reserve your spot. Happy Social Worker Week! In the Sioux Falls School District, every student's journey is unique. For many of the kids we serve, our school social workers are there every step of the way! Whether offering a listening ear, connecting families to resources, or advocating for students' well-being, their dedication ignites hope and creates lasting impact in our schools. This year's theme, Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact, is a perfect reflection of how our social workers bring people together to create brighter futures for students. THANK YOU to our incredible school social workers for your compassion and care!

While it is feeling much warmer, recesses are 20 minutes long and we want students to keep students warm and comfortable to be outside for that amount of time. Please see this reminder about outerwear for students.

JFK is fortunate to have Nurse Erin at our school to help students and staff throughout the day. The school nurse provides a variety of services at school, caring for injuries and illness, helping which chronic health conditions and disabilities, providing health screenings, and other health support to students and staff. Along with that, Nurse Erin goes out of her way to make the health room a friendly and educational area for students. Currently in the health office students can learn about heart health, healthy water intake and healthy habits during cold and flu season. Thank you for all you do at JFK!

A recent Facebook post regarding Washington High School falsely claimed a routine request for a birth certificate was related to immigration status. State Law (SDCL 13-27-3.1-3.3) requires all public school students to have a birth certificate on file within 30 days of enrollment. When required records are missing from student files, school staff regularly attempt to contact families before sending the required information to the State’s Attorney. These requests are made solely to ensure compliance with State Law and to maintain complete student records. They are in no way related to immigration enforcement. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and their families. Please reach out to your child’s school or the district office with any questions rather than relying on social media for accurate information. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping student records up to date.
