Congrats Mrs. Gray!! Lindsey Gray from Jane Addams Elementary received the 42nd Public School Proud Grant! She will use $1,451 for her proposal, “Build Math Towers to Build Math Thinkers!” Lindsey plans to purchase Math Stackers Learning Systems, Math Stackers Mega Magnets, and Math Stackers deluxe sets and bundles. In the application, she wrote, “Math Stackers help children imagine, build, and represent math problems. These manipulatives allow children to learn in the environment we know is best; through hands-on, active play in a fun, social, and collaborative environment. Math Stackers embrace a mindset of critical thinking over memorization and encourage positive risk-taking for students as they work to solve math problems. The materials can be used to build or expand upon foundational addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills. Because of their mathematical design, students can physically see if the math works or if they need to manipulate more to find the solution.” Thank you, Sheldon and Deb Koski, for generously sponsoring materials that increase student engagement!

The 4th and 5th graders did Kids Care on April 19. They went to the Ronald McDonald House and St. Francis House for off-site opportunities to help others in need. Miss Jasper's House came on site this time and kids helped in the Jane Addams donation room as well! This is such a great way for kids to give back to their community!

Bill Kerwood visited the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at All City on April 11th to show off some magic tricks and learn about recycling. He used humor, tricks, and puppets to deliver his message about what kids can recycle and the reasons why it's important! Thanks for coming to visit Bill! We learned a lot and always enjoy your visit!! We are still wondering how you did some of those tricks?!? 🤔

Students learned about the solar eclipse during Family last week and they were all very excited to watch it on Monday! Unfortunately, it was very cloudy during our viewing party so we were only able to catch a very small glimpse of it. They still had fun making memories and wearing their protective glasses.

The March Madness Reading Challenge in Miss Leloux's 3rd grade class was a slam dunk success! Students were divided into 8 teams of 3 and then put in a bracket to face different challengers during the 3 week competition. Thanks to the students for their hard work and extra reading at home! The top three students each read over 2,500 minutes each. The winners and top readers earned prizes and the class had a celebration party. Way to go!

The inaugural ACE/Holy Spirit Elementary Chess Tournament is in the books! Congratulations to all our competitors and a special thanks to all our parents who came out to support! The final score of the tournament was Holy Spirit: 21.5 and ACE: 8.5. We are so proud of all our Chess Club students. They have grown and developed so much as chess players and as young people over the year. Both schools agreed we should do the inter-school chess tournament again next year, so we look forward to another great opportunity next spring! This brings Chess Club to a close for this school year. We look forward to another great experience next school year! ♟️♟️♟️ Big thank you to our chess master, Dave, and our parent volunteer who runs Chess Club, Anthony Pizer, for their time and dedication!
