Our Eagle Expectation for this week was to "Disagree Respectfully." Students learned these skills in the classroom and practiced and reviewed throughout the week. Discuss with your child at home what they learned about disagreeing respectfully. Keep working hard on all these social skills, Eagles!

Save the date for the Fall Festival!

Happy Coaches Day! We are celebrating our instructional coach, Shari Kvistero! Thank you for all you do to support our teachers/staff and students!

Kids Care for 4th and 5th graders kicked off last Friday with an introduction to what they will all be volunteering for this year and then they picked up trash at Elmwood Park! Thanks for keeping our neighborhood clean!

Mary Jo Arboretum is so beautiful this time of year with the leaves changing for fall! On October 4th, Mrs. Ernster's 3-4 EIC blend and Miss Leloux's 3rd grade ACE class took a field trip together to check out the awesome sites during a nature scavenger hunt, learned about classrooms of the past, and explored the trails! It was so fun to go as buddy classrooms and learn together! They had the most perfect day outside for this field trip!! Thanks to all of the volunteers at Mary Jo Arboretum who led each station and to our parents/helpers who helped out as chaperones! It was a great day!

Chess Club started up this week for fifth, fourth, and third graders! There were only 30 spots and there were over 40 kids interested in learning chess from Chess Master David Kerkhove! Thank you to Anthony Pizer for leading the charge in getting chess back! The kids were chanting "Chess Club" in the halls on the way there today! So fun!

On September 29th, the ACE kindergarten and third graders went on their buddy classroom field trip to Riverview Tree Farm and Pumpkin Patch! It was a hot, beautiful day to be out on a hayride to pick a pumpkin, learn about the Christmas Tree Farm, launch some gourds, and play on the inflatables! The kids had a blast! Thank you to all of the parents who drove and helped chaperone!

K-2 Science Club meets on Wednesdays after school. This week they were paleontologists digging for fossils! How cool! Thanks to all of the parents who help make this possible and to Sharla Svennes for organizing it! The kids were having a blast!

Happy Custodian's Day to Habi and Dorothy! We appreciate all that they do for our Jane Addams building!! They work so hard to keep our school clean, safe, and running smoothly! Thank you!

Roosevelt High School Homecoming Royalty stopped by Jane Addams on Thursday to play and interact with the kids in the classrooms and on the playground! What positive role models they were to our young kids! Thanks for coming!

Our first dress up day was "School Pride Day" where students, staff, and families were encouraged to wear a shirt of their favorite school! Students loved showing off their pride! We had elementaries, middle schools, high schools, and colleges represented! Way to go!

School Store was a huge success on its first opening of the year! Students can purchase different food items by either using cash or by purchasing a punch card! Thank you to the Rock and Colby families for getting this all organized and ready! Thanks to our Tuesday 4th and 5th grade parents for helping getting items ready and to our 4th and 5th graders who help run the store. Money earned from the sales has many purposes for our 4th and 5th grade students throughout the year! Thanks for your support!

In Family, students learn about leadership skills based on Steven Covey's 7 Habits for Highly Effective People and foundations within the Leader in Me program! Each month students focus on a leadership habit and learn skills to use in their daily lives! On Monday, we had a kickoff to this by discussing what a leader is and what are habits. Students made friendship bracelets with inspiring quotes. Next month, they will focus on habit one. Here are the 7 Habits we practice and follow.
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw
